Antigenic determinants in influenza virus hemagglutinin.

چکیده
Three antigenic determinants were revealed in H3 hemagglutinin of influenza A viruses isolated from 1968 to 1975. One of them was common for all viruses, and two others specified differences between the viruses possessing H3 hemagglutinin.

Most influenza A virus-specific memory cytotoxic T lymphocytes react with antigenic epitopes associated with internal virus determinants
This paper shows that most murine (C57BL/6) influenza A virus-specific memory cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) clones tested in limiting dilution did not react with the influenza A virus surface glycoproteins, hemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA). This lysis of syngeneic target cells infected with the influenza A virus strains, Aichi (H3N2), PR8 (H1N1), or recombinant strain X31 (H3N2) indicat...
متن کاملINFLUENZA VIRUS HEMAGGLUTININ Original Antigenic Sin: A Bone Marrow-Derived Lymphocyte Memory Phenomenon Modulated by Thymus-Derived Lymphocytes
The "original antigenic sin" phenomenon (OAS) 1 challenges the dogma of the specificity of the immunological memory: when there is sequential infection with two different but antigenically related strains of influenza A virus, the antibody stimulated by the second infection reacts more strongly with the primary virus than with the one actually eliciting the response (1-3). This phenomenon is no...
متن کاملExpression of antigenic determinants of the hemagglutinin gene of a human influenza virus in Escherichia coli.
Antigenic determinants of influenza virus hemagglutinin were expressed in Escherichia coli. DNA coding for presequences of hemagglutinin were removed and an ATG codon was placed before DNA coding for mature hemagglutinin. A number of expression plasmids were constructed in which various segments of this reconstructed hemagglutinin DNA were fused to DNA coding for bacterial beta-galactosidase. T...
متن کاملAntigenic drift in influenza A viruses. I. Selection and characterization of antigenic variants of A/PR/8/34 [HON1] influenza virus with monoclonal antibodies
Antigenic variants of A/PR/8/34 [HON1] influenza virus were selected after a single passage of the parent virus in embryonated chicken eggs in the presence of monoclonal antibodies to this virus. The monoclonal antibodies were produced by a hybridoma and were specific for an antigenic determinant on the HA molecule of the parent virus. Seven antigenic variants were analyzed with 95 monoclonal a...
متن کاملAntigenic variation of influenza A virus nucleoprotein detected with monoclonal antibodies.
Monoclonal antibodies were used to study antigenic variation in the nucleoprotein of influenza A viruses. We found that the nucleoprotein molecule of the WSN/33 strain possesses at least five different determinants. Viruses of other influenza A virus subtypes showed antigenic variation in these nucleoprotein determinants, although changes in only one determinant were detected in H0N1 and animal...
